Logarithm by Example

Properties of Logs and Exponential

Challenge Problem

Solve for x in

Log Workshop

Flash Card:
Sketch the following functions: log(x-2) and ln(-x+2)

Use Formulas for logs to find x:
If log x = y

Then 10y = x

If ln x = y

Then ey = x

Find x: log(3x+4)=2

So

Find x: e24x = 6

Take ln of both sides

Essential Properties of logs:

1: log bt = t log b

2: log x = ln x, when x = 1

3: ln ex = x, log 10x = x

4: 10logx = x, elnx = x

Word Statements

The Inverse of logs (log x = y) is Exponential (x = 10y)

The Inverse of Exponential (ex = y) is logs

(x = lny)
