Chapter 1 - Examples of Problem in Homework 2 and Workshop Examples
Example 1. Sketch the following function and clearly state when its
crosses the x-axis and y-axis
(if indeed it does) and give its value when x = 5.
The y -intercept is when y = -10, it does not
crosses the x -axis and when x = 5, y = -320

Example 2. State the Domain (possible values of x) and Range (possible
values of y)
for the function
and clearly state where the graph crosses the x and y axes.
Graph of the function
|
There is an asymptope as the
function approaches values of x equal negative big (infinity) - the asymptote
is y = 0, so there is no x-intercepts; however there is a y-intercept of y
= 3 when x = 0.
The y-int:(0, 3) No x-intercepts |
Example 3. State the Domain and Range of the function
and state where
the graph crosses the x and y axes.
|
Domain: x > 0
Range - all values of y Note: The graph of
the function does not cross either axis. |
