Negative Integers: a set of numbers, I = {.., -5,-4,-3,-2,-1}

2 views about negative numbers

    1. Negatives as the opposite attribute to positive integers
                The same quantity or amount of negative cancels the positive
                    x (negative) plus x (positive) equal 0
                    x + y (negatives) plus x (positive) = 1 negative = - y
                    x (negatives) plus x+y (positives) = 1 positive = + y

                    456(+) plus 500(-) = +456 + (-500) = - 44 or 44(-)

                    liken to the addition of positive and negative charges (the stronger quantity wins)

    2. Movement along number line
                Positive integers moves to the right of zero pint
                and negative moves to the left

                -2,  -1,  0,  1,  2           (from -2 to +2 there are 4 unit movements)

                  -5  + 4 - 3 + 2 equal move 5 positions to left (-5) to position -5 from 0
                                                 then move 4 places to right (+4) from position -5 to -1
                                                 then move 3 places to left (-3) from position -1 to -4
                                                 then move 2 places to right (+2) from position -4 to -2
                   Final position is -2 or -5 + 4 - 3 + 2 = -2
