Polynomial and Rational Functions

Behavior of power functions:y = k xn, where k and n are constants (odd, even, negative n)

Exponential Functions:y = bx, where b is a constant

(c) Power Functions:y = xn, where n is a constant

(d) Log Functions:y = ln x and y = log = x

(e) Long and short run behaviors of Polynomial Functions y = anxn+an-1xn-1+....+a1x+a0

(f) Rational Functions:, where p(x) and q(x) are polynomial functions and q(x) not equal to 0

Examples

Horizontal asymptotes: divide p(x) and q(x) by highest power of x and set
