Question 1 - Find the Domain and Range of the following functions:
(a) (b)
(a) , So zeros are x = -½ and x = 2, y-intercept is -2
Sketch looks like: Domain: Range: y > 0 and
(b)
Domain: Range:
Question 2. The cost of manufacturing n goods
is a piecewise function:
cost is equal to $600 for number of goods below 100
and an addtional
$5 for number goods equal to and greater than 100
up to 1000.
(a) Sketch the function for cost of manufacturing per number of goods and
(b) give the cost for manufacturing 800 goods.
(b) C= 600 + 5(800-100) = 600 + 5(700) = $ 4100
Question 3. Graph the function ln(x-1) and label all asymptotes
and intercepts
(points where the graph crosses the y and x axes. (b) State the
Domain and Range (use the graph as help).
(a) function as a vertical asymptote at x = 1 and a point on the x-axis at (2, 0)
(b) Domain (x-values): x > 1, and Range (y-values) y is all real numbers
Question 4. Graph the function log(x+ 5) and label all asymptotes
and intercepts
(points where the graph crosses the y and x axes. (b) State the
Domain and Range (use the graph as help).
(a) function as a vertical asymptote at x = -5 and a point on the x-axis at (-4, 0)
And the y-axis at (0, 0.69)
(b) Domain (x-values): x > -5, and Range (y-values) y is all real numbers
